Manager´s challenge: How would you give feedback to your team members on their performance?

Are you curious about what it is like to be a manager? If yes, this challenge is for you! No more theories, here comes a real topic our managers have to deal with every year when they have to give their team members feedback on their performance. This is the second episode of our most popular challenge – How to distribute the bonuses.

How to give team members feedback on their performance and what do you need to address? How will they react to this feedback? What are the main challenges for the manager to keep their people motivated? What topics should be discussed?

If you are familiar with our managerial challenges you know that there was already a challenge to assign performance rating and distribute bonuses to the team. One thing is to give a performance rating, communicate it to the person is a completely different challenge. However, this is the next step in our managers´ everyday life. Your task is to give feedback to your team members based on data you will receive after accepting the challenge (we will send you the file via email daily).

Focus on the following:

  • Summarize the key performance findings in 5 bullet points
  • Write a script of max 500 words (one script per each employee) how the discussion between manager and employee would look like. In total you will have 5 conversations.

Some tips:

  • Write in the form of dialog using " "
  • Discuss anything you consider important
  • Do not forget to include 3 tips for future development of each team member (trainings, soft/hard skills, etc.)
  • Feel free to be creative and make up any information you need to be clear in your feedback

Challenge evaluation criteria:

  • Your feedback is constructive, but emphatic at the same time
  • Quality of analysis: How well you understand and use the data and also include your own thoughts
  • Formal aspects of your solution: How structured and well-written are your thoughts
